ZENESSA are right when they say: “McMurphy’s Subliminal App for Cancer Patients can’t replace the appropriate treatment”. And they are right when quite positively, they postulate: “By controlling your thoughts, you CAN change your life”. But in titling their latest app Subliminal App for Cancer Patients by Prof McMurphy (SACPPM), they may have overstepped their already obnoxiously low morals. SACPPM is a stitch job of text fields, a few recorded encouragements and some retina reruns; it stands on the same technology as the other Subliminal ZENESSA apps which tackle various mental issues such as the fear of flying to trying to keep it up (YKWIM). And, in drawing attention to the word subliminal, ZANESSA are playing a somewhat open hand. But that open hand is a dangerous precedent especially at the volatile App Store. ZENESSA have turned cancer into a mental issue.

Subliminal App for Cancer Patients by Prof McMurphy ZENESSA, Subliminal App for Cancer Patients by Prof McMurphy – $2.99

More after the gap:

It’s good to keep a positive attitude especially in the face of terrible crisis, but succumbing to the sarcasm of quick-fix mind control techniques in order to so is too simple. And, considering that subliminal advertising has been a contentious world issue for decades, it is scarier that Apple approved ZENESSA’s app suite. But perhaps the reason they approved such an app among a suite of similar apps may point less to problems at Apple and moreso to ZENESSA’s tactics.

The word ‘cancer’ is just tagged into a basic plug-and-play app description and it is obvious that the app is designed to band aid itself into the wallets of a target market while ostentatiously trumpeting the good of mind control.

Who’s to know if ZENESSA’s apps aren’t aimed at the lowest common denominator – to pass Apple’s Approval process. Maybe a few 1′s and 0′s went astray to speed the Approval Process over at Apple. While I criticise this app’s morals, I realise that those who suffer from heinous diseases may need help to mentally overcome their illness; but what they don’t need is another company playing with their hearts and minds in order to loosen purse strings.

Hell, if it gets past Apple’s Approval process, then why not stitch together a separate subliminal app for patients of all kinds of terminal diseases. ZENESSA – the world is your oyster.
