Not Your Kid’s RPG: The Quest – 3D Fantasy RPG in Review

Gentle reader, let me impress upon you illumination I have discovered: Redshift’s The Quest is the RPG we have been waiting for in the App Store. In fact, in my long searches I have found it to be the best RPG I have yet played on any portable gaming system. My friends, it should be considered the benchmark for RPG makers to follow: classic and deep; methodical and detailed; it is a true role-playing experience among portable RPG’s that are nothing but shallow hack and slash weapon-building adventures.

Dungeon & Hero in Review – Almost but not Quite

dungeonhero11RPGs have alway been a staple of the gaming environment. From the Final Fantasies and Dragon Quests to games such as Betrayal at Krondor and the newer Fable. A Real RPG arrives at the App Store – The Quest

thequest4thequest2

The Quest – 3D Fantasy RPG is a simply titled game from Redshift and published by Chillingo that looks to follow the classic formula for a PC RPG, not a console cartoon stat monger adventure like the myriad of Square/Enix knock offs.  The Quest has been on Windows Mobile and Palm for some time but has finally made it to a superior platform and for only 5.99$.  If you are fans of the Elder Scrolls, Ultima Underworld and of course Sierra’s genre defining, Betrayal at Krondor, this new RPG should appeal to you.

Notably however, its graphics are far richer than any of the classics listed above and you can play from the comfort of your iPhone or iPod touch.  I know I have waited for a release of a real RPG since the App Store’s inception.  Count me as one who is waiting for this game to be bloody amazing.

More Pickies and Chillingo’s video after the jump!
