When I think back on rhythm games, one of the first that comes to mind is PaRappa the Rapper on the good ol’ PS1. When I think of contemporary examples, Guitar Hero, its offsprings and rip-offs come to mind. Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few years, its undeniable that Rock Band (one of the more popular offsprings of Guitar Hero) has left its imprint on all the consoles. Now, the oft’ copied Rock Band has migrated to the palms of eager iDevice gamers.
Red Rocket Games, the developers who also brought you Little Runner, have offered their well received MEVO & The Grooveriders as a free download at the App Store (only for the weekend). For those who have yet to play this delightful game, MEVO & The Grooveriders fuses the popular rhythm genre with a platform setting.
Mevo is a super-addictive rhythm game that plays like a Mario-style platformer. As Mevo grooves through 5 different worlds, you help him keep his beat by tapping along to the music.
You win Silver, Gold and Diamond Gruv awards for successfully completing each level.
MEVO is worth the price of admission at $0.99 and even more so now that it can be had with only a click of the mouse. If you’re into rhythm games like Guitar Rock Tour 2 and BeatRider Touch, I highly suggest you grab MEVO while the deal is still hot.

Well, I’ve finally done it. I have finally convinced myself to partake in the extravaganza known as “going on tour”. Having prior experience from Guitar Hero and seven years of electric guitar lessons, I found my skills adequate enough to undergo the journey of traveling to 10 diverse locations around the world and performing there. While my head may still be in the clouds, Guitar Rock Tour 2, by Gameloft is the highly anticipated sequel to one of my favorite games to ever hit the App Store.
The music game genre of iphone apps has been seriously lacking competition as of late. Fortunately, the last month or so has seen the release of multiple games for your idevice that follow the tried and true formula of tapping to the beat. These games are easy to pick up, hard to perfect, and totally addictive and TapStar epitomises the lot of them!
BeatRider Touch was a game that had been on my radar for a long time, because of its touted feature of being able to upload your own songs to play along to. Like Tap Tap, Beatrider is a rhythm game where players tap icons on the screen along with the music as it plays, occasionally sliding your fingers to hold down notes.
