Jurassic Park: The Game 1 HD in Review – Daddy, look at those pretty dinosaurs!
For years now Telltale has proven time and time again that they’re able to turn a famous franchise into first-class episodic adventures. We’ve seen this in reboots of Sam & Max and Monkey Island (Review) series, as well as excellent adaptations of Wallace & Gromit and Back to the Future (Review). But when Jurassic Park: The Game was announced I couldn’t help but feel skeptical as to how the unique cinematic experience of such a movie could be translated into an interactive title. Well, I can tell you right now I have been proven wrong.
Naturespace updated with new tracks and features
A little over a year ago I started using Naturespace: Relax Meditate Escape Sleep (TMA Review) – one of the best ambient nature sounds apps out there. Unique in the way it makes a fully engrossing surround sound experience even through the stock Apple earbuds, it has saved my nerve endings from countless deaths. And as we all know – nerves don’t regenerate. Well, I’m glad to say that shortly before Christmas (yes, I Know I’m a bit late on this but still) the developers informed me that they’d just rolled out a massive update, not only making an additional 15 tracks available for purchase but a few nifty features in the catalogue as well.
Fix-it-up: World Tour (Full) in Review – Time management isn’t only about running a spa!
G5 Entertainment is certainly among the more established iOS publishers, best known well known for their superb Hidden Object (HdO) and Time Management titles. I’m not a big fan of HdO but an occasional frantic spin on the next Sally’s Spa can easily suck me in for hours. As you may have guessed, our victim today is of the latter persuasion and also a follow-up to the reasonably successful Fix-it-up: Kate’s Adventure (Full), putting you in charge of a auto-repair shop. Not too imaginatively titled Fix-it-up: World Tour (Full) it follows the adventures of Kate and her two unlikely partners in bringing their business across the globe.
Superman in Review – Is it a bird, is it a plane? No, it’s iSuperman!
Superman, while not the first superhero ever, is arguably the most well-known and iconic one. Created back in the 30′s he was instrumental to establishing the superhero genre. On the iOS however, Superman came quite late in the game long after Chillingo’s The Hero (TMA Review) showed its tight-fitting brightly coloured behind on the App Store. It’s time to see how the legendary “man of steel” holds up to the older and more satirical rival.
XIII – Lost Identity in Review – Find yourself in hidden objects
XIII is one of the cult comic franchises originally inspired by the famous The Bourne Identity novel by Robert Ludlum. Of course, the craze of game adaptations could not leave it behind and a few years ago, an FPS based on the comic series had enjoyed reasonable success, touting cell shaded graphics as one of its main selling points. On the iOS however, this spy adventure recently materialized as a Hidden Object adventure in XIII – Lost Identity, thanks to the famous French publisher – Anuman.
Monkey Island Tales 1 in Review – LeChuck is back and he’s… human?
Few franchises have enjoyed such a cult status as the famous Monkey Island series by LucasArts. While the original trilogy is simply above all praise and the remastered versions of The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition and Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck’s Revenge (TMA Review) have already found their way onto iOS, the PC version of Escape from Monkey Island was a flop. That’s why when Telltale announced they were going to take over the series from LucasArts, the entire Monkey Island community held its breath. And only with the release of Monkey Island Tales 1 could fans finally breath…
Youda Survivor in Review – Robinson Crusoe didn’t have to deal with this!
I think the story of Robinson Crusoe, though sad, has in many respects a lot of romance to it as well. Certainly the prospect of having a Friday of your own 7 days a week is a tempting one. I’m sure many have dreamed or at least tried to imagine what it would be like. And when our imagination fails, us we have but the App Store to turn to. Thanks to G5 Entertainment – the masters of time management – a deserted island will become much less deserted with you on it in Youda Survivor.
Corpse Granny in Review – Night of the living grannies
My wife and I have recently developed a strong passion for all kinds of horror flicks. The recent couple off weekends were devoted almost completely to various zombiexploitation movies, from the classic Night of the Living Dead to Welcome to Zombieland. What could be better than watching a heap of zombies snack on helpless victims, right? I guess it’s time to see them burn! Well thanks to Corpse Granny you can take matters into your own hands and bring righteous flames to the shambling undead.
Squids in Review – Tactical strategy meets your average slingshot
Unlike my wife, I’m not a huge fan of seafood. All those tentacles and scales – yuck. But what I do like is tactical strategy games, especially if there’s a bit of RPG element tucked in. Well it just so happens that an indie dev by the name of The Game Bakers have cooked up something for me to make even all the slimy creatures quite acceptable, at least in digital form. I’m talking about the unique iOS action strategy game Squids.
Galaxy Pirate Adventure in Review – Ahoy there, space mateys!
Slowly but surely, the App Store is being populated by all manner of Privateer-style games. We’ve already seen a superb space sim in Galaxy on Fire 2 (TMA Review), the original boardgame-like Weird Worlds: Return To Infinite Space (TMA Review), as well as a more adventure oriented experience in the amazing Warpgate (TMA Review). For fans of the latter, a new title recently hit the App Store that may well fill their spare time while waiting for a sequel – Galaxy Pirate Adventure. All aboard!
