Last week MirrorCase announced its iPad case on Kickstarter with a splash, raising about 75 percent of their goal in the project’s first week. Already available for iPhone 4, the MirrorCase case design uses a high-quality mirror to reflect back any image that is in front of the device, allowing users to capture images and video from a more natural angle.
Write for Dropbox, an intuitive writing app with a slick interface, is now free for the iPhone after the release of its iPad version. Using Dropbox to sync all your work, the app opens to a blank note so you can quickly jot down your ideas or notes quickly. You’ll also find an extra row of convenient keys above the keyboard that provides shortcuts to popular Markdown syntax. And aside from the host of sharing options available, one of my favorite little features is the cursor trackpad that lets you easily move the cursor around the screen and select desired text.
A little over a week after Apple announced that the 45 billion App Store downloads mark had been passed (which took just over 4 months to get from 40 to 45 billion), the count down for 50 Billion downloads has begun. As with the previous grand giveaways, the lucky person who downloads the 50 billionth app will win a $10,000 App Store Gift Card. But as an added twist, the next 50 iOS users to download an app will also score a $500 Gift Card. In other words, the contest will end after the 50,000,000,050th app has been downloaded. For the complete details, head over to the 50 Billion Downloads page on iTunes, where you’ll also find the Top 25 Paid/Free iPhone and iPad apps of all time.

Just when you thought you’d wasted enough time slinging your way through all those Angry Birds games, Rovio has just released the next instalment in the popular franchise. Aptly named Angry Birds Friends, you play against your Facebook friends in this free to play game, and weekly tournaments will be held (the first being May 6th), where power-ups such as the King Sling, Super Seeds and Birdquake can be employed to your advantage.
Whether you’re a student, writer or just someone who likes using big words, the Thesaurus is undoubtedly one of the best tools to have around. The largest resource on the web is Thesaurus.com (owned by Dictionary.com), and they’ve recently released Thesaurus Rex, a universal iOS app that has 550,000 synonyms & antonyms and features several handy functions, like sorting by relevance or A-Z, filtering results in real time by complexity, and more.
Taskbox, the iPhone mail client that aims to help you get to zero inbox while turning emails into tasks, has dropped to Free on the App Store for the very first time. First launched last October, this well received and ever improving mail app has a gesture system much like Mailbox, in that you can simply swipe left or right to perform actions: add task, complete, archive and delete. And similar to Mail Pilot, Taskbox lets you easily create todo lists out of your never ending inbox.
Infuse is the latest play-it-all video player app to hit the App Store. Long gone are the days when you first need to convert non-MP4 files before importing them for viewing on the iDevice. Infuse doesn’t just play 14 different video file formats, it’s also hands down the best looking app of its kind on iOS, it syncs with your trakt.tv account, and importing subtitles for TV shows or movies is an absolute breeze.
Konami’s recently released PowerPros 2013 World Baseball Classic for iPhone has dropped to free for a limited time (previously $4.99). This is the second instalment on iOS following POWER PROS TOUCH and the game is based on the popular baseball series from Japan - Jikkyō Powerful Pro Yakyū. PowerPros 2013 features 2 game modes (exhibition and championship) and you get to choose from 16 “world” teams, which pack over 400 of the worlds best players. If you’re a fan of this long running baseball video game series or just baseball games in general, be sure to grab this one while it’s still free.
8 Ball Pool, arguably the best Pool game on iOS and the rare online-only title that’s monopolized much of my free time over the past 2 months, has been updated and in the process, given what most of its players have been yearning for since its release – an offline mode. Previously only available for play when online, Miniclip has added the option to “Practice Offline”, thus allowing ball-stroking addicts to get their fill while Wifi or 3/4G data isn’t readily available.
