A little over a week after Apple announced that the 45 billion App Store downloads mark had been passed (which took just over 4 months to get from 40 to 45 billion), the count down for 50 Billion downloads has begun. As with the previous grand giveaways, the lucky person who downloads the 50 billionth app will win a $10,000 App Store Gift Card. But as an added twist, the next 50 iOS users to download an app will also score a $500 Gift Card. In other words, the contest will end after the 50,000,000,050th app has been downloaded. For the complete details, head over to the 50 Billion Downloads page on iTunes, where you’ll also find the Top 25 Paid/Free iPhone and iPad apps of all time.
Users looking to get more out of their iMacs and Macbooks will find plenty to love about the Lifehack Mac Bundle, where 9 handy Mac apps are now on sale for just $49.99 (a $310 retail value). Apps that are part of this bundle include Mac Pilot 5 (easily enable and disable hundreds of hidden features in Mac OS X, among other things), TechTool Pro 6 (complete diagnostic checks, drive repair and data recovery) and one of my favorites, TextExpander 4 (create custom keyboard shortcuts for “expanding” user-defined text). To take advantage of this great bundle, head over to Stacksocial (deal ends in 18 days) to add some or all of these apps to your desktop workflow. And if you’re feeling lucky, several Giveaways are still ongoing, including 2 iPad minis, a Dropbox Pro account for life and The Omni Group bundle.

We’ve covered a number of Mac Bundles in the past, and this is first time I can recall that it’s being given away absolutely for free. Held over at Stacksocial, there are 8 Mac apps found in the bundle and they include Ondesoft Screen Capture ($30), ClipBuddy ($30, a great tool that saves all the clips you make) and Image Smith ($16). The only thing that’s required is for you to have a free Stacksocial account, and then Like/Share it either via Facebook or Twitter. The total value of the Mac Freebie Bundle is $117, and there should be at the very least an app or two that you’ll find useful.
The giveaway ends in 14 days, on Jan 30th. A break down of all apps included after the gap.
Big Fish Games is now giving away free copies of their smash hit Fairway Solitaire, a mighty addictive variation of solitaire with a golf theme. This solitaire game with a humorous twist has the player attempting to clear all the cards in a hole (over 350 to play through) with “golf clubs” and playing cards in their own deck. The only way to capture a card is to use one from the deck that is either one number higher or lower than that on the playing field. The real fun lies in trying to string together a series of card runs, which in turn will unlock golf bucks (in-game currency) and other achievements.
The 12 Days of Christmas promotion started 5 days ago, and for its sixth feature gift, it’s none other than SEGA’s Sonic Jump. Not to be dismissed as just a Doodle Jump clone, this variation of Sonic the Hedgehog is a welcome addition, with addictive gameplay and solid replay value (be prepared to spend some dosh on IAPs). While the 12DoC is technically open only to international App Stores, the game did go free 2 days ago in the US, so this is certainly one worthwhile freebie that’s available to all iDevice users.

It’s that time of year again where things go bump in the night. Those of you that live in the U.S. might think I’m talking about the election season, but I’m actually referring to that holiday of tricking and treating called Halloween. As I’ve attempted to do over the past couple of years, I intend to share with you several games that I think will make this night even more spook-tacular. And if the games seem to lean a bit heavily towards the zombie set I apologize, but that seems to be the most popular ghoulish villain by far. Anyway, let’s get to the games…
