Remember Karateka? You know, that classic 8-bit side-scroller fighter that made your jaw drop back in the 80′s? Well Jordan Mechner, the man behind the game and who later made Prince of Persia, has brought Karateka back to life with the help of Jeff Matsuda’s artwork (The Batman) and music by Grammy-winning composer Christopher Tin (Civilization IV). The remake first arrived on XBLA in early November and has now arrived on iOS.
First released back in 2002 on the PS2, the follow up to the first ever 3D GTA has arrived on iOS and Android in form of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City 10th Anniversary Edition.
From the decade of big hair, excess and pastel suits comes a story of one man’s rise to the top of the criminal pile. Vice City, a huge urban sprawl ranging from the beach to the swamps and the glitz to the ghetto, was one of the most varied, complete and alive digital cities ever created. Combining open-world gameplay with a character driven narrative, you arrive in a town brimming with delights and degradation and given the opportunity to take it over as you choose.
The 7.9-inch iPad isn’t the only new tablet unveiled earlier today. The “New iPad” with Retina Display, which was first released 6 months ago, has been updated with the iPhone 5′s lighting port, along with a more powerful A6X chip.
The new A6X chip inside iPad is our most powerful mobile chip yet. It delivers up to twice the CPU and graphics performance of the A5X chip. And it makes iPad feel faster and even more responsive. Apps launch instantly and run smoothly. Graphics-intensivegames are fluid and lifelike on the gorgeous Retina display. And with improved image signal processing built into the A6X chip, the photos and videos you take with the5-megapixel iSight camera look sharper and even more Retina worthy.

We’re 2 days away from the highly anticipated unveiling of the iPad Mini and accessories maker iGear is now taking pre-orders for its iPad Mini Portfolio case. While there’s no mention of its dimensions (all signs are pointing to a 7.85″ screen), the product page describes it as:
This is a well padded portfolio case for the new iPad Mini featuring PU Leather – it offers the look and feel of leather but is more durable for daily use. A magnetic cover keeps the portfolio closed when not in use for a clean and tidy look. Soft velvet lining protects the iPad Mini all around. Can be used in multiple angles for typing, movie watching, etc. Simple, elegant, very functional.
Splashtop has consistently been one of the most popular remote access and desktop control apps for iOS, and iPhone and iPod Touch users will benefit even more now with the release of Splashtop 2. Version 2.0 was first made available for the iPad ($6.99) several months ago, now with improvements in speed, reliability, security and support for Retina Display hitting the iPhone. So why would you want to use such an app? Well for starters, remote access apps like Splashtop allow you to control your desktop/laptop right from the comforts of your iDevices. So even if you’re away from your computer, you can still work on that Word document, or even watch videos that are located on your hard drive.
Two years ago, boutique manufacturer MST rocked headfi by teaming up with iBasso to create what was arguably the highest quality portable amplifier on the market. Getting one required some patience as MST are a small outfit with a few employees. Their FiQuest, which has been upgraded in the year 2012, is better than ever. In this review, TouchMyApps will be looking at two versions, plus a small optical DAC.
Camera+, one of the most popular and feature-laden third party camera apps for the iPhone, has just become the first app to support the iPhone 5′s dynamic low light mode. As explained on stage during the official unveiling, the iPhone 5′s camera provides up to 2 f-stops greater low light performance, meaning it can go all the way up to 3200 ISO when needed (vs 800 previously). As explained by Scott Meinzer of TapTapTap:
Apple has added the ability for the sensor in the iPhone 5 to take pictures at 4 times the sensitivity. If you’re a camera buff this means the ISO can go from a limit of 800 before, up to 3200 now!
We’re excited to announce that Camera+ 3.5.1 supports extended low-light shooting on the iPhone 5! To show you exactly what this means we’ve taken a comparison photo with Camera+ on the iPhone 4, iPhone 5, and iPhone 5 with new low-light mode. It adds some additional noise, as you can see in the 100% zoom, but it also enables you to take photos you wouldn’t have been able to take otherwise.
Not willing to rest on the laurels of having one of the biggest hits of the year in the theater, Marvel is taking the iOS world by storm as well. This week saw two releases from the master storytellers, the first of which looks to be an Infinity Blade style game called Avengers Initiative. The initial release lets you stomp around as the Hulk smashing things, but future episodes (read IAP) will give you the chance to test your mettle as other heroes from the legendary super-team. If you want something a little more casual but still within the realm of super-heroism then HeroClix TabApp might work better for you. This free iPad app interacts with specially made HeroClix characters to provide you with comic book story driven mini-games custom to each figure you own. On the flip side, those seeking a bit of medieval butchery with a dash of otherworldly demons thrown in should check out Wild Blood from Gameloft. This remix of the Arthurian legends pits you as Sir Lancelot against a warped Arthur and his nasty sister Morgan Le Fey… and a bunch of overzealous hellspawn as well.
