It is that day where everyone is out buying the latest trending gadgets, clothes, and other Christmas gifts for their loved ones. However, I have opted to stay at home this Black Friday and enjoy some of the online deals that are already hitting the marketplace today before Cyber Monday even arrives. Since Black Friday hit early, I suppose some other big brands are also jumping in early to offer great deals online on some of the apps in iTunes. Namely, the one I am really raving about is the Polaris Office app for iPad or the iPhone.
As someone who often travels and/or does speaking engagements, I don’t always have access to Microsoft Office from my laptop. Instead, I often have out my iPhone or iPad reviewing some of the notes I have made. The unfortunate part is that there are times I would like to edit my notes or make changes to some of the things I am writing on. The downside of using the iPad or iPhone has always been the inability to make those necessary changes. In fact, what you typically get is a picture-like image of a document. You can read it, but it’s often small print and never editable. With Polaris Office, they have made the impossible possible!
Not only can you make the necessary changes, but viewing the Microsoft Office documents is also much nicer. As noted above, a big issue was the readability of the documents themselves. The print was much too small, and when you zoom in, this required scrolling back and forth to read full length lines. The Polaris Office app now allows the documents to be viewable in a nice mobile format for quality viewing. It is the difference in viewing a website that is not mobile friendly versus one that is. It requires much less effort.
In addition, the ability to make necessary changes has greatly increased my productivity. I still enjoy my Microsoft Office. It is a piece of software I have used for years. I intend on continuing to use it because it is what I prefer over other document creation software available. Now, with this app, I see that at times making those necessary changes has become that much easier while I’m on the go. The ability to make changes to documents while on a plane or sitting in an airport without having to pull out my laptop is absolutely of great value.
Lastly, the format of the app itself has a really clean and simple design, which is my preference. The focus is on the ability to view the document, not the app itself which gives you maximum view of the documents. Too many app designers look out for the design of the app, but they do not necessarily think about the functionality of it. I think there is a good compromise here. The functionality is the primary focus and minimalist look of the app makes it accomplish what it has set out to do, viewing and editing your Microsoft Office products on an iPad or iPhone
