Final Fantasy IV set to launch for iOS, FF 1-3 now on sale on App Store

With the announcement that Final Fantasy IV will be coming soon to iOS, Square Enix has dropped prices on their beloved FF games on the App Store. This marks the first time this year they’ve been discounted:

Square Enix’s iOS offerings have typically been on the premium side of the App Store price scale, so being able to pick up the excellent mobile ports on the iPhone at a rather steep discount is quite the bargain. As for the upcoming Final Fantasy IV, here’s a blurb from Square’s PR:

The critically-acclaimed RPG, FINAL FANTASY IV, set the standard for role-playing games with its diverse cast of characters, deep plot and real-time Active Time Battle (ATB) system. Based on the full 3D remake released in 2008, relive this seminal title in the FINAL FANTASY series and enjoy the best role-playing game experience available on iOS devices.

The worldwide release date is set for December 20th, and according Pocket Gamer, it’ll have an intro price tag of ¥1800 (about $20). Again, not your everyday $0.99 app, so expect the usual Square Enix quality we’re accustomed to seeing when FF IV arrives on the iDevice.

The sale ends Dec 14th, so you’ll have a full week to snag these excellent RPGs for your iPhone and iPad.

Note: Final Fantasy Dimensions is a free to download app, with IAPs to unlock all four chapters.

FINAL FANTASY

Initially released in Japan in 1987, the original FINAL FANTASY amazed audiences with its rich story and stunning graphics.

Players guide the Warriors of Light as they set out on a quest to restore the crystals to their former luster. Its side view battles, choice and promotion of character classes, and sprawling world explored with fantastic vehicles quickly became standards of the series. This game set the stage for all FINAL FANTASY games to come.

FINAL FANTASY II

The highly anticipated follow-up to the original FINAL FANTASY, released in Japan in 1988.

FINAL FANTASY II features the bitter and beautiful tale of four war-orphaned heroes who become embroiled in the conflict between the hostile Empire of Palamecia and the rebel resistance. Eschewing conventional leveling for a proficiency system that allows players to tailor their characters’ growth, and incorporating a key term memory system that makes dialogue integral to gameplay, this game sparked the spirit of innovation for which the series has become known.

FINAL FANTASY III

Final Fantasy III — now on iPhone and iPod touch!

First released in 1990, Final Fantasy III was the first title in the Final Fantasy series to become a million-seller, establishing once and for all that Square Enix’s classic RPG saga was here to stay.
The full 3D remake released in 2006 duplicated the original’s success, selling over a million copies worldwide.

Final Fantasy III was a hallmark of innovation for the entire series, from the job system that lets characters change classes at any time to the ability to summon powerful creatures such as Shiva and Bahamut.

When darkness falls and the land is robbed of light, four youths are chosen by the crystals to set forth on a journey to save the world.
