Free Worldwide Calling on Skype for 1 month ($13.99 value)

Make more than your share of long distance calls? Well Skype is currently running a promo that gives its existing users free worldwide calls for a month. Basically, it’s the Unlimited World subscription plan ($13.99) you’ll be getting free for 30 days. With it, you’ll get unlimited calls to landlines and mobiles in 7 countries (US, Canada, Hong Kong, Guam, Puerto Rico, Singapore and Thailand) and landline calling in 34 countries.

Once you ‘Claim’ your free trial month (you have until Nov 15th to do so), you must cancel within the first 27 days or your payment method will be charged for the subsequent month. The one big caveat is that the deal is only available to current Skype users who have been registered with Skype for more than 29 days. But if you’re already on Skype, this is great way to get some free calls to your friends and family overseas on your iPhone and iPad via the Skype app.

Above is a screenshot of the countries that fall under the Skype Unlimited World plan. Personally, I love using Skype on my Macs and iDevices and I’ve subscribed to the Unlimited US & Canada plan for over 2 years now. For $2.99/month (I pre-pay for 12 months for a 15% discount), I get to call both cellphones and landlines in North America as much as I want, which is even more enticing as I travel to Asia 2-3 times a month and I can call my wife without having to worry about paying exuberant sums on long distance charges.

Speaking of unlimited calls, do note that it falls under Skype’s Fair Usage Policy, meaning that it’s solely for individual use (no telemarketing and the like) and calls longer than 2 hours will automatically be disconnected. For most users, I reckon this shouldn’t be a problem.

Head over to Skype’s Special offer page to activate your free month.

Here’s what you’ll get

  • One month of free unlimited calls, worth $13.99.
  • Calls to mobiles in seven countries, including the USA, Canada and Hong Kong.
  • Unlimited calls to landlines in over 40 countries.
  • Call when you want, day and night, seven days a week.
  • No obligation — try it for a month and cancel at any time.
