Fighting Fantasy: Blood of the Zombies chews its way onto the App Store

The Gamebook Adventures are among some of the more underrated gaming experiences on iOS in my opinion. The choose-your-own adventure style of play, great writing, and Tin Man Games’ excellent gamebook engine have helped make each installment a satisfying one. And the latest entry into Tin Man’s growing catalog is none other than the all new Fighting Fantasy: Blood of the Zombieswritten by the legendary Ian Livingstone himself. This comes 30 years after he and Steve Jackson co-authored the first Fighting Fantasy gamebook, The Warlock of Firetop Mountain.

“Insane megalomaniac Gingrich Yurr is preparing to unleash an army of monstrous zombies upon the world. He must be stopped and his undead horde defeated. In this life-or-death adventure the decisions YOU make will decide the fate of the world. Can YOU survive or will YOU become a zombie too?”

Playing the role of a man kidnapped and imprisoned in a castle somewhere in Romania, you must make your escape and stop a zombie outbreak by (surprise!) choosing your own path and collecting various much needed items along the way. Choose wrongly and end up being a zombie yourself. I’ve had the chance to play a pre-release copy on my iPad, and while I haven’t gotten too far yet into the adventure, I’m definitely digging the game thus far. I’d say compared to Judge Dredd: Countdown Sector 106, the story here is more up my alley – not surprising seeing how I’m a huge fan of zombie fiction.

Blood of the Zombies is a universal app (with iPhone 5 support) and features all new death endings that are not available in the print book, alternate and unlockable artwork, achievements scattered throughout the book and 3 difficulty settings for all types of players. The price of admission is $5.99 and the app’s now available on the App Store and Google Play.
