9to5mac is reporting that the iPad 3′s release date is set for March 16th, 9 days after the official unveiling planned for tomorrow at the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco. This comes from a reliable Apple Store source’s info that ”preparations are being made for a big Apple Store event which will culminate on Friday, March 16th”. If you’ll recall, the iPad 2 was first announced last year on March 2nd, and 9 days later, was released on March 11th. So time frame wise, a March 16th launch date is certainly possible, and perhaps even highly probable.
And according to CNET, the iPad 3 will in fact be called iPad HD, a name Apple’s hoping to use in order to promote its biggest feature – the high-res Retina Display. The HD moniker picked up steam once again late last week when Gizmodo and other tech sites noticed accessories maker Griffin listing cases for the “iPad HD (3)”, with the ’3′ in brackets seemingly for reference sake. We’ll soon find out within 24 hours just when the exact release date is, whether it’ll be the iPad HD, and if it’ll feature a quad core chip or have LTE support.
