New eBook stops users getting hacked via their smartphones

London, United Kingdom – After the successful 2011 debut of his first book, ‘How NOT To Write an App’, Rod Cambridge has now self-published his follow up entitled ‘How NOT To Use Your Smartphone’.

How NOT To Use Your Smartphone is available now on Amazon.com for $3.99, and will be rolling out to Apple’s iBookstore, Barnes & Noble and other online stores over the next few weeks. A paperback version will follow.

Identity thieves can do an awful lot of bad once they have someone’s personal information. And increasingly smartphone users are being hacked because they don’t understand how to configure or use their devices safely. For example, the bad guys can trick smartphone owners into connecting to insecure Wi-Fi networks where they can then obtain their credentials and other private information. They can drop malware onto a device without the user realising, or make the smartphone call or text premium numbers that they own, pocketing the cash while the user ends up with huge bills. All too often the victims of hackers also have to deal with financial, banking, credit card, and utilities fraud, loss of social and professional reputation, and more.

In this book, computer security expert Rod Cambridge highlights the dangers of mobile computing and provides solutions, tips, and advice to help the user avoid being hacked through their smartphone.

“If you’ve just got a smartphone or tablet for Christmas, this eBook could turn out to be the best $4 you’ve ever spent!” said Rod. “Due to their increasing popularity and the fact that they contain lots of personal information, the bad guys have smartphones and tablets firmly in their sights – especially as they realise that users often engage in risky usage practices or put little thought into securing their devices simply because they haven’t been told any better.”

How NOT To Use Your Smartphone is second in the ‘How NOT To’ series of eBooks. Additional books in the ‘How NOT To’ series will be released during 2012.
