iPad 2 Cases Roundup

The iPad 2 was officially unveiled 2 days ago and it sure didn’t take long for third party manufacturers to announce their own line up of iPad 2 Cases.  From the Apple iPad Smart Cover to the ZAGGmate w/ Keyboard, there will be plenty of choices for those planning on buying the upcoming tablet. Here’s a glimpse of some of the iPad 2 cases that will hit the market in the very near future.

Apple iPad Smart Cover

The iPad Smart Cover is a drastic departure from Apple’s original iPad Case. As the name implies, it is really more of a cover than an actual case. Made specifically for, and designed along side the iPad 2, the slim cover that comes in either Polyurethane ($39) or Leather ($69) helps protect the screen while leaving the aluminum back exposed. Using magnetic hinges, the Smart Cover snaps onto the iPad 2’s magnetic frame and can be removed just as easily. And like magic, the iPad automatically wakes up when the cover is lifted, and goes back to sleep mode when fully closed. It also comes in 10 colors – 5 for each cover material. Availability: March 11th

The Booqpad by booq combines an iPad 2 case with that of an agenda, making it possible for students and professionals to keep all their important essentials close by in one pretty package. One side houses the iPad, while the other has slots for a pen/stylus, business cards and an A5 notepad. Each Booqpad ships with a blank 50-sheet A5 notepad and the cases come in 5 eye catching colors. All Booqpads will sell for $49.95, save for the Coffee-Cream color, which goes for $99.95. Availability: March 25th

Targus 360° Rotating Stand & Case

The Targus 360° Rotating Stand & Case stands out in that it features a unique, patent-pending mechanism that frames the Apple logo on the back of the iPad while allowing it to rotate both vertically and horizontally. As part of the design, the case provides users with three viewing angles when used as a stand. The Hard-Shell exterior protects the iPad and the soft interior lining helps prevent the device against scratches.

The 360 Target case comes in one color (Black/Blue interior) and will sell for $59.95. Expected availability: March 11

ZAGGmate W/ Keyboard for iPad 2

The ZAGGmate w/Keyboard for iPad 2 is essentially the same case made for the first Apple tablet, but this model has been updated to fit the slightly smaller dimensions of the 2nd gen iPad. Combining a sleek looking case with a fully functional bluetooth keyboard, those who prefer a physical keyboard over the virtual one will feel right at home with the ZAGGmate. The outer shell is made with Aircraft-grade aluminum that matches the backside color of the iPad and when used as a case, only adds ¼” to the iPad. My previous review (for iPad 1) can  be found right here.

ZAGGmate w/Keyboard for iPad 2 sells for $99 and can be pre-ordered now. Availability: all pre-orders will be shipped no later than March 31st

Candy Convertible for iPad 2

The Candy Convertible by Hard Candy Cases looks like it tore a page out of Apple’s original iPad Case design blueprint – but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. This flip folio case is made of animal-friendly faux-nubuck material and designed to provide adequate protection while keeping the iPad 2 slim and fit. When used as a stand, the Convertible offers 2 viewing angles (typing and viewing media) very much like the first Apple Case.  Retail price is $44.95 and two colors will be available: Black and Red. Availability: Ships March 31, 2011

Other Hard Candy cases include the Street Skin iPad 2 Case ($39.95) and the iPad Bubble Sleeve Case ($49.95), which can be used for both iPad 1 and iPad 2.

The Marware C.E.O. Hybrid iPad 2 case

The C.E.O. Hybrid iPad 2 Case by Marware is the sequel to their best-selling case for the first iPad. The Hybrid blends a hard shell case with a soft, scratch-resistant interior. An elastic hand strap found on the inside will allow for users to better hold their iPads with one hand for web browsing, ebook reading or even FaceTime. The protective lid also doubles as a stand, offering 3 different angles for typing or watching media.

The C.E.O. Hybrid for iPad 2 is available in black and can be pre-ordered now for $49.99 US.

M-Edge Capital Jacket TS for Apple iPad 2

Among M-Edge’s new line up of protective accessories for the iPad 2 is the Capital Jacket with the integrated Theater-Stand (by ZeroChroma). A four-point mounting system holds the iPad 2 securely in place while the durable exterior and double closure zipper provides plenty of protection when traveling. The unique multi-angle Theater-Stand will hold the iPad up to 15 different viewing angles in both landscape and potrait modes, which will come in handy for reading ebooks or watching movies in just about any position. A variety of colors are planned for the Capital Jacket, though only Black with Grey Interior is shown on their website. Pricing and due date currently not available.

iKit Carbon Case for iPad 2

The Carbon Case by iKit is made from a mixture of durable rubber and polycarbonate to give your precious iPad 2 that extra layer of tough protection. All the essential cutouts are in place for the rear camera, microphone, speaker and ports. Much like the majority of iPhone cases, this one will slip on from the back of the iPad and adequately cover the sides of the tablet. As an added bonus, the case will also come with a free iKit iPad Screen Protector (cleaning cloth and bubble remover card included), which retails for $14.95 on its own. The Carbon Case will sell for $40US and is available on March 11th.
