Bellevue, Washington – Independent developer Mirek Elsner today is pleased to announce World Meeting Planner 2.0 for iOS, a major update to his business app that enables users to schedule conference calls or webcasts among participants in different time zones. The user selects the cities to be simultaneously connected from the app’s database of 40,000 locations, which includes most cities worldwide with a population of 5,000 or more. Entering a possible date and starting time, WMP automatically displays the corresponding date and local time in all locations. By process of elimination, the user can determine the date and starting time that best accommodates all parties. The app can send an email invitation with an attached .ics calendar file, or enter the date and time on the user’s iPhone Calendar.
World Meeting Planner 2.0 launches and operates in portrait mode, and defaults to the Locations tab. There are five tabs: Location, Time, Calendar, Favorites, and Info. From the Locations tab, the user can add any number of entries to a scrolling list of cities that will be participating in the conference call or video. Touching the Add button brings up the Search page, and the iOS virtual keyboard. Optional, advanced substring processing will automatically recognize incomplete names of international cities. A scrollable list of cities throughout the world with matching names appears, and selecting the correct one returns the user to the Locations page, where the city has been added to the list of participating locations. Touching any city on the list displays its pushpin on Google Maps with additional location details.
Having compiled the list of cities, including the city of the meeting’s host or organizer, the user touches the Time button to begin planning. The Time tab consists of the iOS date and time picker on the bottom, where users may dial in any tentative date and time, and the list of participating cities above. The list includes cities in the left column, and daytime/nighttime indicator and each city’s local time and day of the week in the right column. Any changes to the date and time display are immediately reflected in the cities list. The app takes into account each city’s correct time zone and International Daylight Savings Time.
Having decided upon the best day and time for the conference call or webcast, users may touch the Calendar button to add the event to the device calendar. From the Calendar tab, organizers may send automatically formatted email invitations that include: Purpose of Meeting, Invitation From, Event Starting Date and Time with local time for all participating locations, and Meeting Duration & Recurrence. All email invitations include an attached .ics calendar file, compatible with Google Calendar, Apple iCal, Microsoft Outlook and others.
Finally, World Meeting Planner includes a Favorites tab where frequently contacted locations can be stored for quick reuse. Version 2.0 of the app simplifies this procedure by allowing existing locations to be cloned as favorites. The update also includes: easier identification of locations due to added country information, a day/night indicator for selected locations and times, an info tab for quick access to help, expanded information storage in Favorites, and a newly designed user interface.
