Touch ‘n Go: Magic Pictures HD – touching photography

Tobias Thomsch may be an artist, but his business sense is keen. Cervo Media hooked up with Tobias in outing Magic Pictures HD, an entertainment app that gets you in touch with art and the artist. I’ve been playing around with Magic Pictures HD for a few days and have formed a very terse opinion of it as a unique, if quieting digital experience.

Tobias’ and others’ work is displayed in panning photographic scenes replete with fitting sound effects, and floating OpenGL particle effects. These effects can be anything from snowflakes, to dust, to fog that can be manipulated by touch. In the background, fitting sound effects roll in and out. You CAN choose to turn off the particles and sound, but then, you’d be left with just an old OSX screensaver. And in case this becomes a habit, you can bring a clock into it.

So, is Magic Pictures HD worth 1.99$? Honestly, I think it is a great way to really utilise the multimedia capabilities of the iPad. Prop your iPad up on a shelf and you have an interactive picture display replete with sound. Plug the headphone output to a HiFi, and you have a truly ambient experience. All in all, a very way to enjoy photography.
