iPhone 4 Front Camera Headtracking takes No-Glasses 3D to the next level

Fort Lauderdale, Florida – kode80 LLC today is pleased to announce the release of HoloToy 1.07, the seventh update to its no-glasses 3D digital toy. Version 1.07 adds two significant new features; the ability for users to create their own 3D scenes from images on the device using the new depth and transparency editors and realtime headtracking when run on an iPhone 4 using it’s front facing camera.

Since its release HoloToy has been a continually evolving piece of digital entertainment that explores the immersive interactive possibilities surrounding it’s approach to no glasses 3D. Up until this point the effect has relied on using the iOS devices accelerometer to alter the perspective based on device angle. By keeping your head still and tilting the device the 3D effect updates as your brain would expect. Now, with the addition of the iPhone 4’s front facing camera and real time facial recognition software it is possible to alter the perspective based on the users head position in relation to the screen. Placing the iPhone 4 in front of you it is possible to literally look around the 3D scene by moving your head.

HoloToy’s creator Ben Hopkins had this to say “since release it’s been great watching peoples reactions to HoloToy. As soon as I heard the iPhone 4 had a front facing camera I knew that this would be the next big HoloToy feature. Moving the device and seeing the 3D scenes move as expected is surprising, moving your head and seeing the 3D scenes move as expected is magical!”.

While the headtracking feature is only available on iPhone 4 all HoloToy users from iPod touch through to iPad can now in version 1.07 create unlimited 3D scenes from images on their device using the simple built-in depth and transparency editors. These scenes can be reordered and flicked through giving each HoloToy user their own 3D photo gallery and their holiday snaps new depth. Aside from these major new features HoloToy also contains many interactive toys ranging from a customizable fishtank and robot to physics and puzzle games.
