Parrot AR.Drone – The dream-toy for the Jesus phone, international launch dates and pricing now available!

I first came upon the news about the Parrot AR.Drone Quadricoptor about half-a-year ago. This dream toy immediately caught my attention as  an amazing showcase of what the future may hold for both our children and kidults in terms of gadgets and entertainment. The one thing that plagued my mind though ever since I laid eyes on the AR.Drone was when will it be available and how much will it cost. I even got an exclusive interview with Michael Pastor of Parrot for some juicy details and the info I sought for. Unfortunately I found only half of the answers at the time – with neither the dates nor pricing defined.

Parrot AR.Drone is a quad-turbine helicopter, controlled over Wi-Fi from your iDevice or (coming soon) Android powered smartphone. But it’s not as simple as that – featuring 2 cameras that stream directly to the controlling device, it offers unparalleled opportunities for augmented reality gaming, with several games already developed by Parrot and an open API available to 3d-party developers to create their own apps.

E3 has come and gone and Parrot has finally unveiled the US launch date as September 2010 at the more than reasonable $299 price tag (all of us know that as men grow up they don’t stop playing with toys, the toys just get way more expensive) in selected retailers. But what about the rest of the world? Well, here I felt it was time to pull some strings and only here and now we have the exclusive announcement of the international launch dates for this dream toy.

  • USA: September 2010, in selected retailers at 299$
  • UK: 18 August 2010, HMV at 299£
  • France: 18 August 2010, FNAC at 299€
  • Germany: 18 August 2010, Saturn at 299€
  • Italy: September 2010, in selected retailers at 299€
  • Spain: September 2010, Media Markt at 299€

Regarding other countries, no plans have been set, as Parrot doesn’t have their own offices there. But as soon as a decision is made, I will post about it.

Remember, you read it here at TMA first! Also, as soon as it is available I’ll try to get my hands on one for a review, so stay tuned.
