Bloomies in Review – Build a Beautiful Garden Without Getting Dirty!
Bloomies is a game which is clearly aimed at fans of FarmVille and similar titles. It’s a real time simulation game centred around a garden. You must plant some greenery of your choice and look after it as you would a real plant – water it and watch it grow. Cultivate them carefully and they’ll attract lots of bees and butterflies who’ll collect nectar for you. The nectar is your currency, which you’ll then use to purchase more plants, decorations, upgrades and bees until you’ve got a thriving garden which is the envy of your neighbours!
Feel free to discuss Bloomies in our forums.
When you start, you’re presented with an empty plot of land, waiting to be filled. You start off with a couple of types of plant, and more are unlocked as you progress through the game. You must buy plants, plant them and then set bees to work collecting the nectar. And that’s about it. You have to water your garden periodically or its inhabitants get grumpy and will produce less nectar. It’s not the type of game you’ll play continuously for hours at a time; more like five minutes here and there whilst you water your plants and buy a new decoration for your garden. Then you’ll quit out and come back hours later to find your baby plants have grown and are demanding water, and your nectar stores are full to bursting!
As you play, you’ll collect XP (experience points) which gradually add up, and when you have enough, you’ll level up. These points come from hitting certain targets, like watering your garden a certain amount of times, or owning a number of decorations. When you get to the higher levels, you’ll unlock different types of plant and decoration – and you’re also awarded with stars.
Stars are an additional type of game currently which allow you to purchase upgrades, like make your plants mature more quickly, or purchasing the butterfly farm. As well as earning these for levelling up, if you click on the sun/moon once every 24 hours, you’ve given a freebie!
On the whole, there’s not really a great deal else I can say about the game, because there’s not a lot to it. It’s a relaxing kind of game, which you can play as much or as little as you like. It’s not particularly compulsive, and you won’t spend many minutes at a time on it because you’ll soon run out of things to do. You’ll just buzz off and wait for your plants to grow and produce their precious nectar, ready for the cutesy bees and butterflies to collect it for you.
Overall, Bloomies is a pleasant game which looks and sounds great. If you want something that doesn’t take up much of your time, but will entertain you for five or ten minutes when necessary, then this is it. It’s inexpensive, and if your friends are playing too, you can compare scores and achievements using OpenFeint.
