This just in – me and millions of other poor sods here in Europe, Russia, and, actually, the whole wide world can now offically all go weep in the corner. Due to “demand far higher than predicted” the international launch date of the dream device – the iPad – has been delayed for one more month. This means the earliest folks will be able to get an iPad anywhere outside of the US officially will not be earlier than late May – with pricing announced and pre-orders available on May 10th. Apple, I understand the 500k iPads sold is a sizebale chunk, but still – what gives?!
TMA’s Editor-in-Chief shigzeo gives his take on the delay and official press release after the break. Now go shed some tears… or, if you’re in the US and already nabbed yourself one, laugh maniacally.
You may have free healthcare, you may even have free education. But none of that matters when Apple’s magical iPad won’t be keeping its appointed debut in your utopia of a homeland. Scheduled to roll out across the globe at the end of April, the iPad should be just a couple of weeks away. Unfortunately, demand for the device in the birthplace of baseball and those hilarious Budweiser adverts has forced an unfortunate delay to the God Almighty iPad’s launch. Say ‘goodbye’ to late April, and hello to late May!
Apple’s Japanese site hammered me with this pad bad news, but other sources confirm that indeed, the iPad has been delayed. Apple will announce international pricing announced and begin taking online orders on May 10. Keep an eye out for more iPad at TouchMyApps.
CUPERTINO, Calif., April 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ —
Apple today released the following statement:
Although we have delivered more than 500,000 iPads during its first week, demand is far higher than we predicted and will likely continue to exceed our supply over the next several weeks as more people see and touch an iPad™. We have also taken a large number of pre-orders for iPad 3G models for delivery by the end of April.
Faced with this surprisingly strong US demand, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the international launch of iPad by one month, until the end of May. We will announce international pricing and begin taking online pre-orders on Monday, May 10. We know that many international customers waiting to buy an iPad will be disappointed by this news, but we hope they will be pleased to learn the reason-the iPad is a runaway success in the US thus far.
