Hottie Hookups in Review – Get Your Coat, You’ve Pulled!

From the team that brought Sally’s Spa and Sally’s Salon to the iDevice, Hottie Hookups is a time management game with a difference. You’re not waiting tables, styling anyone’s hair or cooking the dinner. No, you’re playing Cupid. You’re sent to the hottest clubs around the world in order to make sure the gorgeous people are paired up together.

They’ll then boogie around the dance floor and eventually ‘hook up.’ You must then drag the couple to a taxi, and they’ll head home together. At the same time, you must keep nerds away from them, because if the hotties get too annoyed, they’ll leave, and you’ll lose points.

The gameplay mechanic is basically dragging and flicking. Naturally, it starts off quite easily. You must match up couples. You can match men and women even if they’re wearing different coloured outfits, but it’s definitely beneficial to match the colours of their clothes, and then the colour of their taxi when they’ve hooked up. In fact, in later levels this is absolutely essential in order to get enough points to complete the level.

You must draw a line across the dance floor from a man towards a woman, or vice versa, and the couple will sashay towards one another, say hello, then dance a while. You’ll be expected to multitask, so while one couple are getting to know one another, you must match others, whilst getting rid of those nerds at the same time. They’ll swarm around the hotties and you must flick them away before tempers are raised.

As you progress through the game, you will be given more different couples to match, just to complicate things. You’ll also have obstacles thrown at you, for example a type of nerd that looks like a regular hottie until she’s paired with a man – then you see her true colours. Shake your device to get her claws out of the hottie before it’s too late! If you’re in time, she’ll leave and the guy will live to date another day. If not, he’ll be dragged off heaven knows where with the scary nerd. Don’t let it happen!

The game gets steadily more difficult as you go along, but this is part of its charm. It’s a gentle learning curve and when you start failing levels, you’ll be compelled to try again, and again, until you pass. It’s an addictive and fun game, with excellent graphics and music (which you can turn off if you like).

Hottie Hookups is OpenFeint enabled, so if you want to link your account then you’ll earn various achievements as you play through the game, which you can then show off on your high score board to your OpenFeint friends! It would have been nice if the game had also linked to Facebook and Twitter, but it’s a minor loss.

What’s not minor is the time you’ll spend playing this game. Once you start, you’ll find it very difficult to stop! The only thing that could make this game better is a slightly lower price – but it’s still a great game for the money. Casual gamers will love Hottie Hookups! Recommended.
