TimeSqueeze In Review – Record Your Life Benny Hill Style!

Time is something that we could all definitely use more of. When it comes to something like videos, time can sometimes be the killer. Time to load, time to play, it’s everywhere. As an answer to this potential issue developer Infoxenter have released a handy little app called TimeSqueeze. Read on to see what I thought, if you have the time. Feel free to discuss this review of TimeSqueeze in our forums.

Not just a clever name, TimeSqueeze is an app that allows you to record video on your iPhone and instantly squeeze/compress it down to a mere fraction of its original size. The scale in which you can squeeze the video is HUGE! Starting at 5x it goes all the way up to 1000x.

Thankfully the dev’s explain what that means for average joe. A 60 second clip at 5x can be reduced to 12 seconds. On the opposite end of the scale, a 24hour video can be dropped to a measly 90 seconds at the 1000x level. So without even getting into it, you already can see one of the huge benefits of an app like this.

Visually the app looks pretty simple and straightforward. Most of the screen is used as your viewfinder just like your camera.app with your buttons at the bottom. On the far left you have your record button, a zoom slider in the middle and on the right you have the buttons to view your recordings and select your level of compression (or how much you want to “squeeze” it). Really simple buttons for a really simple app. The only thing that I could not seem to find were instructions. As simple as it is, a quick page with a “how-to” or even a URL to visit can make all the difference.

Once you’ve picked your settings and recorded your video you can then tap on the “library” icon to view and edit your recorded clips. From here you can upload to YouTube or even post it to Twitter via yfrog or Facebook. In this day and age of instant gratification and minimal privacy I’m sure there are tons of people who will be able to appreciate that.

Now one thing people need to remember is that this app is a timelapse video app. Meaning, everything that you record will be squeezed down and sped up ala old Benny Hill. Knowing that, it is a good app at what it does, it’s only real disadvantage is that the TimeSqueeze style might not be for everyone.

I really do like TimeSqueeze. I had a bit of fun with it and I’m sure others would too. I would recommend this one to anyone that likes to have fun recording videos. Whether it’s your kids, your friends, or just random people on the street have a blast recording them and then watching them look like chickens with their heads chopped off.
