Parrot AR.Drone Quadricoptor – Taking augmented reality to a whole new level

Ever since I was a kid I always wanted a remote controlled helicopter. It always seemed like one of the most cool things on the planet. Well, seems I’m not the only one. CES 2010 has come and gone and while the Apple fan communtiy is awaiting the rumored launch of the iTablet at the end of January, a small company called Parrot has showcased their latest marvel – a quadrotor helicopter controlled via Wi-Fi from your iPhone or iPod Touch!

And while this is enough to wet anyone’s appetite, there’s more. The Parrot AR.Drone Quadricoptor features 2 cameras with live feeds right to your iPhone. Taking advantage of this the iPhone app will have 2 augmented reality games built in right of the bat with multiplayer! Juicy videos after the gap.

And the company has an open API that it is prepared to make available to 3d party developers for them to make their own Augmented Reality games for this Space-Age toy.

I don’t know about you but this is one thing I’m definitely putting on my X-mas  wishlist. Unfortunately it’s still not available for purchase and will probably cost not only an arm and a leg, but a kidney as well. But hey – who said life was easy?
