The JH13Pro, are smooth, detailed and for lack of a better term, exciting. They are however, less silky than the SE530 is. What the SE530 lacks (apart from quality build) is a detailed and extended high end. If it had sparkle and energy up top, it would certainly be one of the best if not the best sounding universal on the market. But, it is a bit too laid back. The JH13Pro isn't like that. Both, however, are hard to drive, in that they won't get full sparkle or bass response out of an iPod or other portable player. An amp does help, or a bit of EQ.Just about any custom will be an upgrade from a top universal, but a top universal can be tweaked to sound simply amazing. Unequivocally.
