As you can see from the graphs, there is about a 2,5 decibel jump in bass response compared to the unloaded frequency response. It helps loaded (with earphones in parallel) response too. Setting 2 is even more – perhaps as much as 9 or 10 decibels.

Thank you for that information. My long overdue Nuforce Icon Mobile review will come in the next few weeks. I assume mine is from 2009 also, but its jacks are recessed. However, it is a very good amp for the money considering all that it can do. Regards.

Just to clarify: current and revised version of Nuforce Icon Mobiles since the start of 2009 ship with all the input and output jacks flushed and can accept large diameter headphone connectors.

Glad you enjoyed the review. For laptop use, this amp is a definite winner. But then again, most are. Laptops’ audio outputs are often as hellish as it gets: hissy, alternating beeps and boops and intermittent static and votage fluctuations. A battery powered amp really helps. Still, would help to have an attenuator.
