Anime's 'real McCoy'

Though years since bursting onto televisions across the globe, Evangelion remains an anime favourite and to many people, a benchmark to which other Sci-Fi films and series must strive to attain. Until recently, the iPhone has been devoid of anything anime. Sure, some RPG that use anime drawings or anime-inspired  characters have hit the shelves of the App Store but not an official anime release.

Details are still out but Tokyo-based software producer, Appiliya (Appiliya have 26 App Store applications to their name and are quickly ramping production of more) are producing what is to be the iPhone’s first licensed Evangelion application.  The App is purported to make use of many hardware features unique to the iPhone.

From their website:

Appliya’s initial offerings for Evangelion will be “casual” apps that utilize the visual style, characters, and storyline from the Rebuild of Evangelion films. The applications will be the result of a joint production effort between Appliya and Japanese media company Broccoli Co., Ltd. The apps will take advantage of the innovative touch screen on the iPhone and iPod Touch, as well as the device’s camera, calendar functions, and clock.

Evangelion was first aired in 1995 in Japan and became a worldwide multi-billion dollar production.  It has been a favourite of anime fans since its creation.
